About Kedarnath
Kedarnath is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and one of the holiest shrines in India, sitting at 3553m in the Garhwal Himalayas. The trek is 22km one way — not 14km, not 18km as most people say. The moment you first see the temple from a distance, something shifts inside you. When you finally stand in front of it — the crowd disappears, the noise disappears, and it's just you, Mahadev, the valleys, and cold mountain wind on your face.

Local Tips
Trek is 22km one side — not 14km or 18km as people say. Plan your energy accordingly
The real incline only starts after Rambhara — the first 8km will feel easy, don't burn out
Book accommodation via the official Char Government portal — private rooms are ₹7000+/night at top
Avoid horses — they are overworked and poorly cared for. Hips, lower back, and hands will ache from riding. Walk if you can
Fill water from natural springs on the route — completely clean, completely free
Carry fruits, nuts, and chocolate from base — stalls on trek charge very high prices
Helicopter available from Phata/Sitapur — book weeks in advance, it fills up fast
Opening day darshan (late April) is special — requires early planning but worth every bit of it
